FAQS
-
Our rides combine wonderful riding through some of England’s finest country with elegant places to stay, good food and drink, all in the company of like minded riders. Every adventure is carefully planned with an attention to detail to make it a holiday that you won’t forget.
-
Our rides are designed primarily for riders bringing their own horses. If you would love to join us but don’t have a horse of your own, horse hirelings may be possible for experienced riders through an independent local provider. All hire arrangements must be made directly with the provider however we are able to advise and share contact details as well as liaise with the provider on the logistics of a ride
-
Our rides explore varied country, with terrain and distances that differ between destinations. You should be a confident, competent rider whose ability is suited to the adventure you have booked. If you are unsure whether a ride is right for you, please get in touch before booking so that we can discuss the route and your experience.
-
This depends on the ride you choose. On average we ride for about two and a half hours in the morning and one and a half in the afternoon. Each adventure has its own itinerary, distances and terrain, which is detailed in the brochure. We want you to know what to expect and feel prepared for the days ahead.
-
Not necessarily. We particularly welcome private groups on some of our rides and, in some cases, private groups may take priority, however some rides are for mixed groups and we are also able to put smaller groups together to form a group. Availability depends on the destination and dates, so please contact us if you are thinking of joining a ride either as an individual or part of a smaller group.
-
This depends on each ride. Please see the relevant brochure
-
Rose personally leads every Rose Cameron Ride. She has planned and ridden or walked each ride and knows them intricately. She will be able to tell you about the local area, history and wildlife and keep you safe. We also have ground staff on hand to provide support
-
We carefully select overnight stays with the horses in mind. Each horse has its own individual turnout paddock enclosed by electric fencing, and good-quality hay is provided throughout the stay. Facilities vary between locations and whilst stabling is not always available at the house, we are able to arrange it nearby if required, please see the relevant brochures.
-
You remain responsible for your horses welfare and day-to-day care, but our experienced groom is on hand to provide practical support throughout the ride.. They will discuss your horses individual needs on arrival, meet the group at lunch stops with hay and water, stay with the horses during lunch, and help you settle your horse at the beginning and end of each day’s riding. Feeding arrangements are discussed on arrival.
-
We always have a local vet and a farrier on call. If your horse loses a shoe, the farrier should be able to replace this by the start of the ride the next day. The cost of this will be your responsibility
-
You will need to bring your horse’s usual hard feed, along with their own personal equipment and essentials. A detailed packing list will be sent to you with the final details for the ride with information to help you prepare for your ride.
-
Your horse needs to be fit enough to cover around 40 miles over the three days (roughly 15 miles during a full day; 8 miles during the half day). Your horse should be sensible, fairly sure-footed and calm around other horses. All our rides are taken at a reasonably relaxed and enjoyable pace though there are plenty of opportunities for long canters. If you have any concerns about your horses fitness, please discuss these with your vet and get in touch with us before booking
-
We will always give you detailed arrival directions and a What3Words location. If necessary, someone will come and meet you at an easy location. Some of our locations are quite remote so please make sure your horsebox/trailer is not too low or too big
-
There is always at least one day when we will need to box up for a ride. You will need to leave your horsebox/trailer somewhere off road for the day. Some of these locations are quite remote so please make sure your horsebox/trailer is not too low or too big.
-
Food and drink are an important part of our adventures. You can look forward to generous breakfasts, fresh lunches in beautiful locations, afternoon tea and cake, and dinners that make the most of local ingredients wherever possible. We also enjoy gathering for drinks and sharing stories from the days riding. All food and drink are included on every ride
-
Please tell us about any allergies or dietary requirements when you enquire or book. We will discuss these with our chef in advance to establish what can be accommodated.
-
You will need suitable riding clothing and footwear, a correctly fitted riding helmet that meets the applicable safety requirements, and your usual riding essentials. Conditions can vary, so we recommend packing a full set of waterproofs. We will provide a detailed packing list for each ride on booking.
-
All our rides are fully inclusive so you will not need to put your hand in your pocket from arrival until departure for anything apart from cash for optional tips, massages and perhaps a tack clean
-
Your booking confirmation and terms and conditions will explain the details but a 30% deposit is required to confirm your booking and the final balance is due six weeks before departure
-
We understand that plans can sometimes change. The cancellation terms and any applicable charges are set out in our booking conditions, which you should read before confirming your reservation. We also recommend arranging appropriate insurance for your circumstances.
-
Horse hire may be possible through an independent local provider dependent on availability. We can share contact details and liaise about practical ride logistics, but all hire arrangements must be made directly with the provider. Please also see our cancellation terms.
-
You will need to have both Public Liability Insurance and Personal Accident cover in place for you and your horse.
-
Like any outdoor activity, the English changeable weather is part of the adventure. We plan our routes with weather conditions in mind, and lunch plans always include an alternative if the weather makes eating outdoors unsuitable.
